Kym (in OZ)-
I am currently making trophys for a surfing competion. So I went down to the shed and put it on the disc man... IT IS GREAT !!! The new Pollo album gets better the more you listen to it. My fave tracks are The Saracen Gift (alias the little drummer boy). Apache 99...a very cool version. South of the Border and Annabelle Lee and the rest are good as well, there's not a dud track on it. I'm stoked...... any chance of you's touriing here?????Jelena-
I picked up your latest CD . Big Thumbs up from me and my 6 year old. Sorry to hear you first CD is out of circulation. Looks like I will have to keep my eyes open in the used CD racks. If you happen to find any laying around (fell behind or under the couch)... let me know....I'll buy it!Les-
Wanted you to know I picked up the new Pollo Del Mar up here in Seattle at Soundwaves CD's. Absolutely mind blowing! I didn't think you could improve much on your first release, but I was wrong. These are two of my most favorite surf CD's Thanks for the great music!!Dave-
Wow! I thought Devil and the Deep Blue Sea was the best release of '99.John-
Love your new CD. Really! Very, very cool!Scott-
Hey, just wanted to say I love the new CD. All the stuff that sounded cool at the Paradise Lounge show sounds great on disc as well. Particularly like Johnny Foo, esp. that whammy chord in the middle of the last refrain. And your cover of Moon Over Marin is going to force me to go out and buy the Dead Kennedys CD with the original version -- always the measure of a good cover. Don't know if it's you or Jono, but I love the superfuzz/punk/pushin' too hard/little runaway take in the middle of the tune. Best no-kidding-punk sound I've heard in a long time, in a surf song no less!Dave-
PDM's CD is at the top of my list for '99. It's just flat out great as far as I'm concerned.Steven-
I caught Sedge Thompson's "West Coast Live" and really got off on Pollo Del Mar's (Great name!) sound. Decided to lay some on my Bro-in- Law, an old long-board surfer who's just opening up a beachside resort on New Zealand's 90-mile Beach, when I fly down to visit him after Christmas. I KNOW he will dig it. By the way, my wife now is crazy to hear the band, too. So I'll probably have to get a set of "Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" and "The Ocean Is Not for Cowards" (great title!) for her, as well. You see, it's a standing joke in our family that every year about this time even a few bars of "The (@#$%&!) Little Drummer Boy" will send me flying at the radio/TV/stereo or any other source of that abomination to turn it off -- if not to smash the machine it's coming from. So she was in total shock and denial when I told her how much I enjoyed Pollo Del Mar's Celtic/psychedelic/surf/mariachi/dirge rendition of that particular tune -- which I really did. It was beautiful, man. Happy Millennium!Woody:
Wow! This baby is hot. It can only be described as what you'd get if you mixed the Insect Surfers with Slacktone and threw in an occasional Aquavelvet melody to smooth things out. This one may get my vote for best of '99. Great job Jefferson, Chris, Jono & Ferenc. Now go order it!Allen:
The new Pollo del Mar is terrific.Andrew:
Pollo Del Mar is a wonder band.Joe:
Thanks for the CD. I must admit me and the crew were sceptical. We receive CDs all the time from User guys and most are very not good, not to mention we pretty much hate everything. Lo and behold, we load the suspiciuos Pollo CD expecting turd, and instead are greeted by wicked guitar instrumentals, loaded with interesting arrangements (DK's yes!), serious two guitar interplay, rolling tribal drums, fat ass bass and a perfectly underprocessed live sound! Congrats on a crushing CD!Patrick:
Kudos to Pollo Del Mar for writing one of the most gorgeous melody lines in recent memory ("Annabelle Lee"). The new versions of "South of the Border" & "Devil's Slide" merit attention also. I really enjoy "Jonny Foo-Ninja Chiropractor" for all the wrong reasons. I continue to play Pollo Del Mar for all my "unsuspecting" music loving pals. Your music is the ideal bridge for people who would like to take a dip in Lake Reverb. I hope the new disc is selling briskly. Nice job!Mike:
I'm enjoying your new Pollo CD. You guys are a premier surf band and I'll be looking forward to number three!el rey the big katuna:
having recieved my copy of "the devil.." with the understanding that I would hand it off to wfmu, here on the east coast, in order to cultivate a broader taste for the delicacy that is pollo del mar; alas, i have grown to love my cd version and can't bear to part with the object of my desire. Shit its a fuckin' cool cd, what can i say?Lloyd:
Speaking of your new CD, "The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea," I must congratulate you and your bandmates on a very fine recording. Your originals are well crafted. They are all quite distinct, and they really stick in your mind(always a good sign of a great tune). The arrangements of the covers are inspired and tasteful ("The Saracen Gift" is simply stellar). Best of all, the musicianship throughout the whole CD is superb. (My God, I'm starting to sound like Phil Dirt). Seriously, I hope you guys reap the success that this recording deserves.Francis:
My wife and I really enjoyed the Surf Show. Right now we are listening to your new CD and it's fantastic.Bryan:
Great show!!! I love the new CD!! See you in november.Vicki:
OK, so I'm slow, but I think I got it: "The Saracen Gift" strikes me as having certain similarities to a well-known Christmas ditty, ba-rum-pa-pum-pum. Am I suffering Post-Driving In San Francisco Stress Disorder, or is the tune based on "The Little Drummer Boy"? (I promise not to tell.) I've listened to your new CD 3 times since Saturday, which is saying something since I wasn't even home for most of yesterday. It's most excellent!!Steve:
hey, I just listened to your new cd about 4 times in a row. It is wonderful, great job, I like it better than the first disk. gonna see if I can put something in my sampler and do a house remix or something. That Rt. 666 sure has gotten around over the years, kind of like the energizer rabbit.Bob:
Thanks again man for setting up an incredible show. We loved your set and new CD is very good!!!!Stan:
What a great show on sat.-I love the new cd and the performance you guys put on was surfalicious!! I can't wait for the date w/ The Mermen that should be incredible-anyway thanx for the great vibes...Craig:
Great show, by the way, and I love the new CD. I've spun the hell out of it for the last three days. It's playing right now as a matter of fact. Damn good stuff. Have a good one!Rick :
The CD sounds great, looks great, good freak'n job. My personal fave was Jonny Foo, good work all the ambient stuff on the CD as a whole. You some really interesting chords movements in Consuela's Revenge. Killer job on Apache'99, that's a hard song to make work, we never could nail down that song in the Woodies. Clap, clap, clap,Miles:
Im listening to "Devil" cd and it sounds great!! "Consuelas Revenge" is awesome. I love the tikis in the boat cover, I think the pagans need all the exposure they can get in the next milenium!! Thanks, and again, fab new cd bro!!Dan :
I think that "The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" is easily the best recording of the year. "Annabelle Lee", "Cutlass Supreme", "Consuela's Revenge", "The Saracen Gift" and "Rt. 666" are instant classics. I hope that there will bemore like this in the future. It will be a severe tragedy if Pollo Del Mar ever gets a vocalist.Moondawg:
I like it -- good songwriting and playing, and a well-defined sense of style. (Too short, though.) Makes me wish even more that I could see the band live next month when I'm out there ...Carl:
Your new CD arrived Saturday. So here I am with my truck (99 Chevy Crew Cab, Long Bed 1 Ton 4WD) out in my orchard with The Devil playing away while I am putting streamers on the fig trees to keep the birds off. Only in California!!. First let me say that for me the best surf tune around is John Blair's Apache (the Fiberglass Rocket one). Your's is real close, I don't know why Phil didn't give you 5 stars for it. Really like the use of feedback, remember I grew up around SF during the late 60's when feedback was king. Really good work!!!
